A day at the beach

Monday morning Peoria greetings to one and all!

It was a miracle over the weekend here in Central Illinois and we actually had the sun come out for a few hours! Amazing! Of course by Sunday we were right back into the gray and overcast weather and it looks like the rains will be moving into the area for the next number of days.

Another one of our stops on our West coast tour in Southern California was La Jolla and Seal Rock. The views of the Pacific Ocean are always incredible and it’s just so captivating to sit and watch the waves roll in. There’s also all of the wildlife from the birds to the Sea Lions that you can see as well. We were fortunate to be at Seal Rock days after a number of the female Sea Lions had given birth to a new crop of pups. Most of the Sea Lions were soaking up the sun and sleeping on the beach and the rocks, but we did see a number of them that were swimming around in the surf. All and all it was a great afternoon to be outside shooting photos and enjoying the scenery!

Here’s a couple of our snaps for our afternoon at Seal Rock in La Jolla.

Thanks as always for checking out our work and we hope that you’re going to have a great week to come!!!

Nihon no yūjō gāden

Monday morning Peoria greetings to one and all!!!

March has been motoring along for us and we are getting geared up for the start of our busy season! We’ve got a number of projects that are starting to come together with April and May are starting to get filled up! We’ll enjoy things being somewhat calm before the storm hits!

We’ve got more San Diego photos to share and that’s one of the things that’s so great about road trip’s like that. We are able to get out and shoot photos everyday and that makes Jan and I both very happy! One of our stops was the Japanese Friendship Gardens San Diego in Balboa Park. For those that haven’t been to San Diego and Balboa Park, it’s probably best known for being the home of the San Diego Zoo, but there’s so much more there to see. There are a number of great museums as well at the park and it’s a place that you would need multiple days if you wanted to see everything! The Japanese Friendship Gardens is one of those spots that is very calm and serene and is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We were able to spend a couple of hours there walking around and shooting photos on a very nice and relaxing day!

Here’s a few of our photos of the Japanese Friendship Gardens.

It’s time for us to get to work, so we hope that you have a great week to come and thanks as always for checking out our work!

Some Like It Hot

Monday morning Peoria greetings to one and all!

Now if you are living in the Southwestern US this past weekend, Some Like It Hot might have described the weather over the weekend! I was watching the Nascar race from Phoenix on Sunday and it was a toasty 95 degrees there! That’s probably a little too much heat, a little too soon for even those living in the Southwest!

One of our stops to shoot in San Diego was the Hotel del Coronado on Coronado Island. It’s an iconic hotel for many reasons and when it was built back in 1888, it was the largest wooden structure in the world! It also was featured in the 1959 movie, “Some Like It Hot” with Tony Curtis, Jack Lemon and Marilyn Monroe. It’s amazing inside and out and it’s like stepping into a time machine to a by gone era. We had a great time walking around and shooting some photos while checking everything out.

Here’s a couple of our photos from Hotel del Coronado!

We hope that you’re going to have a great week to come and thanks as always for checking out our work!

Surf’s up

Monday morning Peoria greetings to one and all!

Well for those of us in Central Illinois that thought that winter was over, mother nature brought us back to reality that winter’s not over just yet! Sometimes that happens and we can catch a late winter cold snap or snow storm in March and even into April. It looks like we got a couple of inches out here at my house, so spring will have to wait a little longer!

One of the fun things about our trip out to the West coast a few weeks ago is seeing things that we don’t have here in the Peoria area! Surfing is one of those activities that we don’t have in the Midwest, but it’s something that I could literally sit and watch for hours on end and never be bored. We saw all ages out there surfing from young kids to adults that were a little more seasoned, but still out there having a blast! Surfing is a way of life and a culture and it’s a sport that screams youth, so there’s always a lot of energy going on. As photographers it can be challenging to shoot as well because the action is all over the place and it’s always moving. It can be really hard to get good action shots, but I think that we got a few!

Here’s a couple of our surf shots from SoCal!

Thanks for taking the time to check out our work as always and we hope that you have a great week to come!

A taste of spring

Monday morning Peoria greetings to one and all!

March is here and we are rocketing along in 2017 putting the first two months of the year in the rearview mirror. We’ve had a very mild winter here in Central Illinois and I’m not complaining in the least! Everyday that we get past gets us closer to summer and that makes me very happy. I’m ready to see things start to green up a little more around town and with the warmer temps that we’ve seen, it should be happening sooner rather then later!

Another one of our stops a week ago while out on the West coast was the San Diego Botanical Gardens in Encinitas, Ca. While our Central Illinois vegetation is dormant for the winter time, it’s anything but dormant at SDBG and flowers are in bloom and that’s always great to see! Getting out and shooting nature photos like this is our therapy and it’s amazing how walking around and shooting some photos can relax you. It’s also fun to see different plants and flowers that we just don’t have here in the Midwest as well.

Here’s a few of our snaps from a day at SDBG.

Thanks as always for taking the time to check out our work and we hope that you have a great week to come!

R & R SD Style

Tuesday morning greetings to one and all!

Wow, it’s been a month since you last heard from us, but we’ve been busy! Lots and lots of video editing and we’ve been working on some last minute projects for the big ConExpo show in Las Vegas next week! Our work is going to be shown at the show and that’s a great feeling!

We were able to get out of town last week for a few days for a little R & R and it was an overdue time away. We had planned to get away last Christmas, but we needed to shoot some stuff for a big job that we have been working on, so we postponed the vacation. Sometimes stuff like that happens, but we’ve learned to roll with the changes that life can sometimes bring. Last week we had a couple of jobs that got postponed and I told Jan we needed to take advantage of the time and get out of town for that much needed R & R. So, sometimes things work out the other way as well! We were able to get out durning the week and shoot some personal photography and that was really something that we both really needed because it had been a long time for us to do that.

One of our spots to shoot was the Torrey Pines Gliderport in La Jolla, Ca. and as you can see from the photos, it was a perfect day!

It’s time for us to get to work, we’ve got a busy week of video shooting!

Thanks for checking out our work and we hope that you have a great rest of the week!!!

The Great White North

Monday morning Timmins, Ontario greetings to one and all!

We’ll it’s the first Monday morning photo of 2017 and you’re probably thinking, “Wait a minute, it’s almost the end of January, where the heck have the promos been for this year?” That’s a darn good question. The bottom line is that we just aren’t shooting the amount of still photography from week to week that we have been in the past to justify sending out a weekly promo. Video work has taken over our business and we are just inundated with video projects. We are shooting more and more video and also doing a ton of video editing as well on projects that we are shooting and one’s that we aren’t shooting, so it’s keeping us very busy! Back two years ago in January of 2015, we made the official announcement that we were shooting video besides shooting still photography and our video business just exploded. Last year in 2016, video work has now become 70% of what Jan and I do and the world of still photography is less and less for us from a business standpoint.

So what does it all mean? Going forward, the weekly promo photos will be sporadic as you’ve seen already this year. We might go weeks where we don’t have anything to share and then you might see a weekly photo for a number of months at a time. We only want to send out our best photos and also ones that we have shot recently, so you’re not looking at our library of images!

With all that said, here’s a photo from Sunday in Timmins, Ontario. This is the McIntyre Head Frame and it is the only building that remains from the McIntyre underground mine. The mine has been closed since 1988 and the property has been fenced out for safety.

Well it’s time to get to work and unfortunately the wind chill this morning will be about -20, so that’s going to be fun!

We hope that you have a great rest of the week and thanks for taking the time to check out our work!

Five more days to 2017

Tuesday morning Peoria greetings to one and all!

Well it’s that week between Christmas and New Years when things can be a little slow. I think that we all kind of get in the holiday mode and there can be a lot going on or not much depending on what’s going on in your life. A lot of us have been spending time with family and friends on Christmas and then I’m sure there might be a celebration or two next weekend with New Years. Normally for us things are pretty slow work wise this week, but not this year. We’ve got a couple of shoots to do and then some editing, so we’ll rock and roll this week and get things banged out! Already things are starting to get booked up for 2017, so that’s a very positive sign of things to come!

I’ve got a couple of our snaps from the Grand Canyon back in October and it’s a very special place.

Ok, we’ve got a few more days until the end of the year, so let’s make it a good one! If you’re going to be out next weekend for New Years, have fun, but be safe! Call a cab or an Uber, we want you around for 2017!

Have a great rest of the week and thanks as always for checking out our work!

It’s Christmas time

Monday morning Peoria greetings to one and all!

Well it’s that time of the year when things are winding down as they usually do. With Christmas being next Sunday and New Years in two weeks, we are all thinking about those holidays and not so much about work. It’s a time of the year to spend with family and friends and think about life’s blessings. It’s also a good time of the year to reflect on things that have happened in 2016 and look forward to 2017.

Here’s one of our photos of Peoria and as I always like to say, we’ve got a good looking city!

If you’re traveling this coming weekend for Christmas, make it a safe one and enjoy the holiday!

We hope that you have a great week to come and thanks as always for checking out our work!

The last road trip of 2016

Monday morning Alabama greetings to one and all!

Jan and I are out here on the road for the last road trip gig of 2016! It’s been quite a year and we’ve been on the road a fair amount for us! Trust me, I know a bunch of road warriors that are out on the road for work many multiple times more than we are and it amazes me how much these friends are out there! I’ve always had a bit of a love hate relationship with being on the road and for the most part we really enjoy it! There are times when you are just traveling and traveling and that can really get to you after a while if you do it too much. Once you reach that point, you’re ready to be home and sleeping in your own bed and eating your own food! Fortunately for us, we haven’t really hit that max time where it’s become too much and that’s a good thing! A week or two on the road and then back home for a few weeks to a month can be a very wonderful thing!

We’ve got a couple of photos from our Western road trip back in October to share and I think that this is our last one from that road trip! We were out in Salt Lake City for a day before flying home and Jan and I were able to visit the state capital building and shoot a few photos! Not having ever been inside, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I have to tell you that my jaw was wide open once we walked inside! What an incredibly beautiful building and the stone work was not to be believed! They sure don’t make buildings like this anymore!

Here’s a few of our snaps from the Utah State capitol building in Salt Lake City!

It’s time for us to get to work, so we both hope that you have a great week and thanks as always for checking out our work!!!!
