Tuesday morning Peoria greetings to one and all!

For my friends in the US, hopefully you had a safe and wonderful Memorial weekend. We’ve got a four day work week this week, so I’m sure that not too many of us will be complaining about a short week of work!

I’ve got one more image to share from my trip out to New Mexico a few weeks ago. One of the things that I always enjoyed about being out West is coming across abandoned buildings like the one that I’m sharing this week. It seems like when you’re going through a small town you’ll find these cool old buildings from a bygone era. Sure all cities will have old abandoned buildings, but it seems like the smaller towns have some pretty cool ones! If I see something like this I’ll try to stop and take a few photos if time permits.

The desert is alive!

Monday morning Peoria greetings to one and all!

I made it back from a quick trip out to New Mexico last week to see my folks and as always it was a great time! I’ve
made trips out there at different times of the year, but never during this time of the year. In Southern New Mexico they have had their rainy season and it’s showing in the desert. They only get about six inches of rain a year, so when they do get rain, everything in the desert comes alive.

I was able to get out for a hike at one of my favorite spots, Dripping Springs Natural Area. In all of my hikes there over the years, I’ve never seen many animals. This time I was rewarded with a number of lizards, toads and even my first ever snake! Fortunately for me, the snake was a non-poisonous Bull snake, but it sure looked like a Diamond Backed Rattlesnake! The flowers were out in force and that’s something that I haven’t seen much of either during my past visits! It’s usually something that doesn’t last long, so I just happened to be there at the right time of the year to see all the color!

Next weekend is Memorial Day Weekend and it’s the official start of summer! If you’re going to be traveling next weekend, be safe and have some fun as well!

It’s time to get back to work!

Monday morning greetings from Omaha, Nebraska!

The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is over and it’s time to get back to work! I’m heading back from a nice week off of work and being able to spend time with my folks! It was also nice to be able to spend time in some warmer weather from what’s been back home in Peoria at this time of the year!!!!

Here’s one of my shots from one of my favorite places in New Mexico, White Sands National Monument. White Sands is just west of Alamardgo, NM and it’s shifting sands are heaven to me! At this time of the year with the shorter days, the sun is going down in the 5:00pm range and that makes for some great photos. In the summer time, you can get these same photos, but you’ll have to be out at the park till 9:00pm or 10:00pm and we all know that’s way past my bedtime!!!! 🙂

Well it’s 24 days before Christmas, so I guess that it’s time to get busy and make that final push to the end of the year!!!! I hope that you’re going to have a great week and thanks as always for checking out my work!!!!!

Thanksgiving

Monday morning New Mexico greetings to one and all!!!

It’s Thanksgiving week for my friends here in the USA and traditionally that can be a very slow work week for some of us! There aren’t too many big projects being started and for the most part we all just get through the first couple of days of the week and depending on what you’re doing and where you might be going, you’ll leave a day or two (or more) early! For the last number of years I come down here to Las Cruces, New Mexico to spend the Thanksgiving week with my folks and it’s always a very wonderful time. The weather is always nice and this year with the temperature in the 60’s all week and loads of sun, it should be really great! It’s always a nice break for me as well to get out and shoot some nature photography and that’s always something that I enjoy doing! I’ll get in a number of hikes this week and hopefully lots of great photos will happen too!

Thanksgiving can be a time of reflection and getting together with family and friends. I know that I’m very blessed and thankful for all the people that I have in my life and how they enrich it and make it the best that it can be!

Here’s one of my shots from today of the Organ Mountains in Las Cruces, NM. Not to shabby of a view I’d say!!!!

If you’re traveling this week for the Thanksgiving holiday, make it a safe one and enjoy the company of those that you are sharing it will!!!

Monday morning Peoria greetings to one and all!!!!!

Sometimes I know that people think that the reason a photographer like myself is able to get good photos is because of the professional cameras that we are using. In some photos that’s true and there are some technical things that a more professional camera can do that a camera with less features can’t do! In the case of this weeks photo, the camera was my iPhone 5s. It’s amazing to me the technology that’s packed into this phone and to be able to get great snaps from a cell phone as wonderful. One of the other great features of the phone is a “panoramic” function with the software. By panning across a scene like this nature landscape, the phone is able to record the image and ‘stitch” the multiple images together into one very nice panoramic image! It’s truly amazing to see how far this technology has come in the last 10 years and it will also be interesting to see where it goes in the coming years as well!

Walking around Santa Fe!

Monday morning Peoria greetings to one and all!!!!!

It sounds like we’re going to get popped with some more winter weather today here in Central Illinois! One of these days winter will be over, but probably not soon enough!!!!

When I was out in Santa Fe, N.M. a couple of weeks ago, I was able to spend a day walking around the downtown and shooting some photos! For me it’s always fun to get out and do this and it’s even more fun in a town like Santa Fe. The Southwest has a lot of great architecture and it’s just so different then what we see here in the Midwest! Lots of warm adobe tones and lots of turquoise colors really work well together and make for a lot of great photos!

I’ve got four photos for you this morning from Santa Fe. The top photo is from the
Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi and is a statue of Kateri Tekakwitha. She is the first Indian of North America to be promoted a saint. The photo on the left is a statue at the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts called “Water Carrier”. The center photo is the inside of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. The last photo on the right is of the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.

Cold Peoria Monday morning greetings to one and all!!!!

After spending the week in New Mexico last week and then getting back to Peoria late Sunday afternoon to a two foot snow drift in my driveway, I’m wondering why I came back home!!!! Oh yea, that work thing!!! 🙂

I was out in Santa Fe last week doing a shoot for my friends at Modern Quilts Unlimited magazine! We were shooting on location in Santa Fe at the beautiful Las Palomas B&B and it made the perfect location for all these quilt shots that we did! We were able to shoot in a bunch of the different rooms there and it made for some very interesting backgrounds! Some of photos were also taken outdoors and we really lucked up because the evening after we finished shooting, Santa Fe got four inches of snow and that would have ruined any outdoor photography!!! Fortunately for us we were able to get the shots that we needed, so everything worked out great!

Here’s one of my shots from Las Palomas and I think everyone is very happy with the shoot!!!!

Back at it!!!

Monday morning Peoria greetings to one and all!!!!

It’s time to get back it for my friends here in the US! My hope is that you and yours had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and now it’s time to push it to the end of the year!!!!

I was fortunate to spend time with my folks in Southern New Mexico this past week and as always, it’s a wonderful time! It’s always great to see family and spend time with them! In my case, since my folks now live in the Southwest, it’s time for me to also get out and shoot a little nature photography in a part of the country that I truly love! When you’ve grown up in the Midwest and seen cornfields for most of your life, to see the mountains and the desert is a wonderful thing! I’m sure that there are people that think that the Western US is “God forsaken” and that’s fine, to each his own! I do love it there!!!!

Fall in the desert

Monday morning Arkansas greetings to one and all!!!!

I was able to spend the last week out in Las Cruces, NM. with my folks for Thanksgiving and as always it was wonderful! The weather was perfect and it’s hard to ask for much more then sunny days and 70 degrees!!!! One of the best things is that I got to experience the fall color twice this year! In the Midwest, the color was ok, but not great and probably becuase of the drought. At Thanksgiving in Las Cruces, the leaves were turning and I was there at the right time to capture it!!!

Here’s a couple of my snaps from the desert and my second go around with fall color!!!!

Thanksgiving

Monday morning greetings from Las Cruces, N.M.,

For my friends here in the Untied States, this Thursday is Thanksgiving and this week is a short work week for a lot of people. Some people have already traveled this past weekend and more will be taking time off and making a traditional four day weekend into a little more!

I’m down here in Las Cruces this week for my traditional time with my folks and it’s great to be here on many levels. The weather is just about perfect with lots of sun and the temperatures in the 70 degree range. My mom does a turkey and loves to watch all the different Thanksgiving parades on TV and my dad and I usually wash my car and then watch some football games and that’s a lot of fun!!!

I have lots of things to be very thankful for and I’m very blessed that I get to take pictures for a living and my clients see value in what I do!!!!

I hope that you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!!!

Safe travels to those that will be traveling and have a great week!!!!
